Inspection Authorization (IA) Renewal
As the holder of an Inspection Authorization (IA) you must renew this certification every 2 years and we will walk you through the process below.
Meet the following requirements stated in 14 CFR 65.93
What can’t you do with it?
You must still meet the eligibility requirements for your initial IA certification, and you must show proof of this to your local FSDO in the month of March for each odd numbered year (ex. 2025)
- During the time you have held your IA certificate you must show proof of the completion of at least one of the following by March 31st of the second year of the 2 year duration of your current certification.
- Performed at least 1 annual inspection every 90 days or,
- Performed at least 2 major repairs or alterations every 90 days or,
- Performed or supervised and approved at least 1 progressive inspection or,
- Completed a refresher course acceptable to the administrator of no less than 8 hours or,
- Passed an oral exam conducted by an FAA inspector
- If you do not meet these requirements by March 31 you will not be allowed to exercise your IA until you have completed an oral exam conducted by an FAA inspector.
- If your IA certification has been in effect for less than 90 days by March 31st of an even numbered year then you are exempt from the above requirements.
- If you are in the Military or are a civilian assigned outside of the US in support of US Armed Forces you must follow the guidelines provided in 14 CFR 61.40
